Description: Hiral Shah, MD, is a neurologist specializing in movement disorders at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Westchester and an assistant professor of neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Shah's areas of expertise include in abnormal gait, balance disorders, dementia, general neurology, tremor, Parkinson's Disease, and Tourette's Syndrome. She has a clinical interest in access to care issues for vulnerable individuals with both mental health and neurodegenerative disorders. Dr. Shah has been an invited guest lecturer at Columbia for the Global Mental Health University Seminar and their Department of Neurology Grand Rounds, as well as for the Alzheimer's Association. Active in research, Dr. Shah has been published in the Journal of the Neurological Sciences, the journal, Neurology and Lancet Neurology. Her work has been featured in books, abstracts, and posters at annual medical conferences. After graduating from Indiana University School of Medicine, Dr. Shah completed her internship and residency in neurology at Columbia University Medical Center and was named chief resident during her final year. Dr. Shah completed her clinical fellowship in movement disorders at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Shah worked at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland, where she continues to work as a consultant. She later served at a Global Mental Health Scholar, and coordinator for a G7 Dementia Research Agenda. She has also participated in training using a Community Based Participatory Research approach and is co-director of the Community and Global Neurology Program at the Neurological Institute.
